Sophie Chen, Ph.D.

Dr. Sophie Chen is a research scientist who has specialized in research on cancer and the role that natural herbs can play in healing people with that disease. Dr. Chen has published over 30 articles and two books in the field, focusing on such topics as cancer cells, auto-immune diseases, red and white blood cells, and chemical interactions with enzymes. She holds twelve U.S. patents, primarily in the area of herbal compounds and chemicals, as well as additional patents in detection methods for blood disorders.

Dr. Chen graduated first in her class in Chemistry from National Taiwan Normal University. She received her Ph.D. from Columbia University and trained as a physical chemist. She was a post-doctoral fellow at Cornell University where she conducted research on enzyme structures and function.

Following her work at Cornell, Dr. Chen spent 14 years in industry with Merck Sharp & Dome and Bayer USA as a group leader and co-director. While in industry, her research focused on anti-inflamation and auto-immune disorders, drug delivery systems and the use of single-agent chemicals for immuno-detection and for treating diseases. She also developed new methods for detecting blood disorders. In 1991 and 1992, she received the Miles Outstanding Scientific Achievement Award.

In 1988, Dr. Chen began research on cancer and the role that natural herbs can play in healing and curing that disease. She has spent several years investigating how to apply the wisdom of traditional Chinese herbal medicine to Western medicine. Her personal devotion to prostate cancer research has now resulted in the development of a highly effective botanical supplement.

In 1993, Dr. Chen co-founded the International Medical Research Corporation with Dr. Allan Wang and Mr. John Chen, a company with the mission of developing natural products for health and well being. Recently, she founded NovaSpes Research Lab to engage in cancer research and natural products, with a focus on botanical extracts.

Currently, Dr. Chen is a Research Associate Professor of Medicine at New York Medical College.
