Leonard S. Marks, M.D.
Leonard S. Marks, M.D., is founding medical director of USRF. He was graduated with honors (AOA) from the University of Texas, where he received both the M.D. and Masters of Arts (Physiology) degrees in 1969. He served an internship and residency in surgery at UCLA/Harbor General Hospital. He then served on active duty as Lt. Cdr. in the U.S. Public Health Service. He was later Research Fellow at Cedars/Sinai Medical Center and Post-Doctoral Research Scholar at UCLA School of Medicine. He completed his urology residency at UCLA and was Lecturer in Urology there in 1978, following which he entered private practice in Los Angeles. Dr. Marks is Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Surgery/Urology at the UCLA School of Medicine and also maintains a private practice in West Los Angeles. His hospital staff affiliations include Brotman Medical Center, St. John's Hospital, The Wadsworth Veterans Hospital, and the UCLA Hospital. He maintains membership in local, state, and national medical associations, as well as the American Urological Association, the American Association of Clinical Urologists, and other professional societies. Dr. Marks and a collaborative team of scientists from UCLA, Johns Hopkins, Purdue, and the Oregon Health Sciences University recently published results of their study into mechanisms of saw palmetto treatment of men with symptomatic BPH. Dr. Marks is a former AFUD Research Scholar and is current recipient of a CapCURE award to study prostate cancer in Japanese men and their descendents living in the U.S. Since 1996, he has been Associate Editor of Urology. |
