The major positive findings of this work relate to the tissue studies. Note that prostate epithelial composition (shown as T.Z. % epithelium on the vertical axis) decreased from 17% before to 10% after saw palmetto treatment, with no change in the placebo group. This epithelial atrophy was confirmed independently in two separate laboratories, and it suggests that with more patients or with longer follow-up, the clinical differences between groups might become more pronounced than what was seen here.
