Foible No. 5. PSA enters serum when it passes from prostate epithelial cell, through basement membrane, and across the capillary wall into the circulation. This process may vary in speed and intensity, thus affecting serum PSA levels. Quantification of the ‘leak’ phenomenon has not as yet been possible. Foible 5 is variability in the ‘leak’ of PSA into serum.
